Description: An encampment of four large tepees in the right foreground and six more in the center background sit on a flat plain with buttes and mesas on the horizon to the left. Several Indian women are seen walking, sitting, preparing dinner around campfires, and tending children. The tepees are from plains Indian culture, of Sioux design. (From the painting, 7 April 2000.)
Note: See the index of Indians in desert locales for several possibly related paintings. The painting Morning on the lava beds appears to be almost the same scene, but with a flowing river in the foreground.
