| Note: | (1) The verso inscription provides a clue as to the date of the painting. The address given in the inscription was that of Schafer's home and studio from 1886 through 1904 and city directories dated during the years 1896 to 1904 list his son Otto as a "scenic artist". The painting was probably executed during those years. (2) This painting was accompanied by a second watercolor of the same size, [Mountain lake 1 (Lake Tahoe?)]. |
