Site: | Great Plains, probably Montana. The area depicted is a flat desert, quite unlike the forested West Yellowstone area that the title would suggest. |
Description: | A Great plains scene, done in shades of brown. Five tepees with the figure of an Indian in the center carrying a walking stick, walking along a path toward the viewer. A group of figures is by each tent, and in the middle distance a standing figure is carrying something. On the horizon, at the left and right, are low, grey buttes; the center is flat. The sky is filled with clouds, with the sun behind. The foreground is covered with brown grass. (From a color photograph.) |
Note: | See the list of Indians in desert locales for several possibly related pictures. |
Identification: | Descriptive title of unknown origin, from the Early California and Western Art Research index. Both the Early California and Western Art Research slide and the photo by William K. Dick identify the collection of Oscar Lemer, D.D.S., and Trudy Lemer. |
