Note: A typescript in the Alameda Free Library Clipping File reproduces a story from the Alameda Daily Argus of August 16 1910, p 1, reporting a painting of this title by Schafer hanging at the Alameda Elks Lodge, donated to the lodge by Judge Robert Bell Tappan. The story goes on to say that the painting depicts a two-story clapboard house in which the judge was born, with an Alameda oak in the foreground and chickens about.
