Reproductions: Early California and Western Art Research/Schafer slide #72 (color, 1985); William K. Dick photo #39 (color, 1971); Sonoma County Museum photograph (color, undated)
Site: A view south into Emerald Bay, on the southwest corner of Lake Tahoe.
Description: A distant snow-covered mountain ridge is partly obscured at the center by a brown mountain and a lower range on the left together provide a backdrop to Lake Tahoe, an intense turquoise blue, on the left. The right bank is forested, with tall trees at the right edge, one of which leans somewhat to the left; just behind the leaning tree is the standing trunk of a dead tree. A point extends into the lake from the right, on which are seen four figures and a canoe. (From a color photograph.)
Note: The picture is quite similar in composition to Morning on Lake Tahoe, California [2] and Emerald Bay, Lake Tahoe in the Sierras. A note on the back of the William K. Dick photograph indicates that the painting was restored along the lower edge and right side by the H. J. Dengler Old Prints.
