Note: This clipping seems to be based on a press release, perhaps written by Schafer's auctioneer, C.P. Troy, or maybe even by Schafer himself, that was used several times in conjunction with auction sales held in the winter and spring of 1886/1887, with minor variations to account for date, venue, and painting titles. This example appeared in conjunction with an auction sale in San Jose, California, on March 11 and 12. A second example appeared three times in the Los Angeles Herald on December 13, 14, and 15 1886 in conjunction with an auction sale in Los Angeles on those dates and a third example appeared in the Tuesday, 12 April 1887, Sacramento Daily Record-Union in conjunction with an auction sale in that city on April 14 and 15, 1887.
