This painting may have been executed between the fall of 1871 and the spring of 1873, a period when Schafer is thought to have temporarily resided on the east coast of the United States before settling in San Francisco. 2. The painting is said to have been sold by the thrift store for $3. 3. South Lake and Kaaterskill Falls were popular subjects for artists of the Hudson River School. |
