Description: | On the right, a figure wearing a white vest walks down a trail on a grassy slope towards a river. Behind the figure is a grove of broadleaf trees; similar trees stand behind a rail fence that slopes down across the higher left bank of the river. In the distance, on the valley floor a row of trees stands at the edge of a lake or larger river; on the far bank of that lake is a low, hazy range of hills that blends into the grey-white sky. (From a color photograph.) |
Note: | 1. This painting appears to depict the same general locale as does On the Passaic River, New York. 2. The 9 December 1999 sale catalog gives a date of "c. 1885" without explanation. |
