Description: | A gently-flowing creek winds by a sunset campfire. On the right, a sparsely-leaved tree emerges from tangled growth and vines to lean out over the creek; behind it are several tall trees and a standing snag. Two figures sit around the smoking campfire on the left side of the creek, a coniferous forest behind them. The sky is yellow at the top, shading to deep orange near the horizon. (From a color photograph.) |
Note: | A painting with the same title was offered as lot 4 on page 3 in the catalog of a 17 November 1885 auction in San Francisco but there is not enough information in that catalog to either include or exclude the possibility that it is the same painting. |
