| Site: | Castle Lake is a glacial cirque located about 15 miles west of Mount Shasta, California. |
| Description: | A snow-covered mountain (probably Mount Shasta) stands at the far end of a valley under a blue sky with a few purplish wisps of cloud. The farther reaches of the valley consist of steep mountainsides with peaks on each side; the nearer part is wide and flat-bottomed. A lake stands in the center of the valley; its outlet stream winds toward the viewer through a field of boulders. Three tall conifers stand at the left edge, their tips silhouetted against the sky. beyond a number of foreground boulders. Just beyond the trees and behind the center boulder there appears to be a lush green field at the side of the lake. (From the painting, 22 July 1998) |
