Description: | A snow-covered mountain range with a lower, dark range in front stands as a backdrop across a lake or river. The sun, off the canvas to the left and low in the sky brightens a reddish-brown section of forest below the snow line. On the near side of the water stands a cluster of three or four conifers tall enough to be silhoutted against the sky, To their left, at the water's edge, is a large white boulder, behind which a fallen snag extends out over the water; a second, smaller snag lies on the near side of the boulder. Behind and to the right of the tall conifers is a dark forest; the foreground is brush-covered. There may be an Indian encampment on the other side of the water. (From the painting, 11 September 1998.) |
