Description: | A hazy, snow-covered ridge of high peaks forms the backdrop for a mountain valley with a distant waterfall and a nearby stream. The stream enters at the lower center and leaves at the right front. On the right bank the valley wall climbs steeply to the top right corner. The rocky slope has some trees in its lower canyon, but the higher reaches are bare; near the upper edge is a knob. Beyond, a grayish steep slope is seen, with a double knob to the right above the waterfall. Behind the waterfall is a dimly perceived forest and beyond that high cliffs. On the left of the river the foreground is a shadowed, sloped clearing, with two fallen trees. Beyond that is a brighter clearing with a whitish conical rock, beyond that several rocky outcrops. Standing above the clearing is a conifer grove; two trees in the middle distance nearly reach the sky. (From a color photograph.) |
