Site: | View from the north of Mount Tamalpais, in Marin County, California, at sunset. The viewpoint is probably near San Anselmo. |
Description: | A majestic Mount Tamalpais, appearing almost as imposing as Mount Shasta, is viewed through a gentle valley. The sun is off the canvas to the right while a crescent moon hangs in the blue sky above and to the left of the peak. The bright foreground is flat with bushy growth on the left and a few taller conifer trees beyond, silhouetted against the sky. In the center a cow drinks from a stream; two more cows, one brown and one grey, stand on the stream bank to the right. One small broadleaf tree is in right foreground, with conifers beyond. The middle distance is shadowed, an unusual reversal of shadow and bright areas. (From the painting, 14 October 1995.) |
Note: | The composition bears some resemblence to Evening on Mount Tamalpais, California [1]. |
