Site: | Mount Shasta, California, viewed through a valley from the South, above a river, perhaps the Sacramento. Shastina stands on the left. |
Description: | The sun, unseen at the left, bathes the snow-capped peaks of Shastina, on the left, and Mount Shasta in a bright coral glow against an intense blue sky. A river appears at the center, flowing out of the painting at the right front. Smoke curls high in the air above a tiny bright campfire on the dark far bank. A cliff rises beyond the campfire; the river bank to the left has tall trees, wild flowers, a boulder, and a fallen tree in the foreground. (From the painting, 12 August 89) |
