Description: | A view down a wide river or a sound, with a large, grey rock bluff at the left that drops directly into the sound, a ridge of snow-capped mountains far in the distance, and a dark green and brown slope covering the lower right triangle of the painting, all against a sky that is filled with clouds in the lower half, hazy at the left and shading towards blue on the right. The foreground slope is dense with brush near the water, with a grove of trees near the center and a cliff rising near the right edge. A boulder stands in the lower right corner amidst grass and wildflowers with a few fallen branches and dead trees scattered nearby. (From a color photograph.) |
