Description: | A dramatically shaded view of a forest along a stream that covers the entire canvas, leaving no sky or horizon. Sun lightens a bright yellow-green clearing in the center, in contrast with completely surrounding dark green and brown tones. Boulders along the stream and a log at right are part of a pervasive clutter of the forest floor. (From a color photograph.) |
Identification: | The Early California and Western Art Research index identifies the slide with both the 1971 Garzoli offering and the 25 May 1982 sale, reporting the size as 36 x 20 in. William K. Dick's notes describe the same painting, seen at Garzoli in 1970, and also reports the size as 36 x 20 in. The only available image is cropped, so it does not help in resolving this difference. |
