Site: | Looking East along the Merced River toward Bridalveil Fall and Cathedral Rocks, in Yosemite Valley, California. |
Description: | In the right center a spectacular waterfall drops from a hanging glacial valley into a wide, flat valley below. Above the hanging valley in the haze stands a grey rocky promontory. In the hazy distance at the left is a cliff with another promontory. The middle distance is covered with a mixed broadleaf and conifer forest; nearer the viewer the banks of the river are flat and clear, with a few bushes, grass, and small rocks. A grove of light green broadleaf trees stands on the right bank, contrasting with the dark cliff above. Bright spots are seen at the top of the waterfall and along the edge on the left bank of the river. (From a color photograph.) |
Identification: | Descriptive title of unknown origin, as reported in the 2003 sale catalog. That catalog gives the signature as "T. Schafer". |
