| Description: | "...a small camp and lean-to at the bottom with a fireplace in the middle...smoke from the hunters' lean-to wends its way up through...a dark background of trees and full moon at the top." (owner's description) PRECAT |
| Note: | The painting spent many years rolled up in an outdoor storage shed. When unrolled it was found to be in poor condition. |
| Legend: | Said to be a circa 1965 gift from a client. |
| Identification: | This painting is probably the same one as Hunter's camp, which was exhibited at the Mechanics' Institute Fifteenth Industrial Exhibition and the San Francisco Art Association Spring Exhibition, based on the identity of the title and the description of that painting that appeared in the San Francisco Chronicle of April 4, 1880, "...a low-key moonlight..." Unfortunately, between the lack of early provenance for this painting and the paucity of details about the painting reported in 1880, there seems to be no way to confirm the connection. |
