Verso: Titled l/c: "Ev. on Mt Hood / from Hood Riv. Oregon" in black brush on the canvas in the artist's characteristic block-letter hand.
Provenance: In collection of Albert Daniel Kendall (1874–1957), Troutdale, Oregon, perhaps as early as 1899 (see Legend); by descent in the family in 1957, 1986, and 2015 to private collection, Portland, Oregon, area.
Citations: Personal communication with the 2015 owner.
Site: View along the Hood River with Mount Hood, Oregon, in the background.
Note: A painting with the same title was offered as lot 28 in the catalog of a May 1886 auction in Salt Lake City, Utah, but there is not enough information in that catalog to either include or exclude the possibility that it is the same painting.
Legend: According to a family legend, Albert Kendall met the artist in Portland, Oregon, in 1899 and may have purchased this painting directly from him at that time.
