[photo] [Yosemite Valley and Bridal Veil Fall from the Valley Floor 3]
Medium: oil on canvas
Size: 30 x 50 in (76 x 127 cm)
Inscription: l/l "F. Schaefer" in the artist's characteristic block-letter hand.
Verso: said to be none.
Provenance: With Place Bellecour, San Carlos, California, 2009
Citations: Place Bellecour inventory number JP-147.
Attribution: Composition and palette are typical of Schafer, but there are a few concerns. (1) The profile of El Capitan is unlike the profile in any of the many other Schafer paintings of Yosemite. (2) Bridalveil Fall does not look natural; Schafer usually paints natural looking waterfalls. (3) There is no natural clutter in the foreground. Clutter in the form of snags, etc., is almost a Schafer trademark.
Site: A view looking East up Yosemite Valley across Bridalveil Meadow and the Merced River, with Bridalveil Fall on the right, El Capitan on the left, and Half Dome in the distance on the horizon.
Legend: Said to have come from a Millbrae, California, estate.
Identification: Assigned, Descriptive title, based on similarity to other titled paintings.
In index(es): Title list, Indian encampments as incidental subjects, Yosemite Valley--classic view
