Inscription: l/l "F. Schafer", in the artist's characteristic block-letter hand
Verso: "X" "82"; "Indian Head in the Lava Beds" in cursive script, in pencil, on the upper stretcher bar. Harrison Galleries label on the lower stretcher bar.
Provenance: In private collection, Victoria, B.C., by 2003. To private collection, Odessa, Florida by 2006; Offered 7 August 2006 (not sold) by Bonhams & Butterfields, as lot 1138 in sale 14017. To a Florida, antique dealer by 2007; offered 24 May 2007 via eBay.
