Description: A canoe with two figures stands on the bank of a small, light blue, lake at the end of a tree-lined road. Beyond the lake is a forested, fog-covered hillside. On the right, one large birch tree dominates two slightly smaller ones, filling the painting to the top; on the left the trees are farther away but still quite tall. Wildflowers grow in the grass on either side of the road; the trunk of a dead tree lies along the left edge. The sky is cloudy but the sun, coming from the right, casts a foreground shadow and brightens the white trunks of the trees. (From a color photograph.)
Note: See the list of forest path scenes for several other works of similar composition. This work has many similarities to Morning in the Adirondacks [2], and for that reason it also appears in the index of eastern United States scenes.
Identification: Assigned, descriptive title.
