Note: In 2002 the painting was located in the U. S. Embassy in Madrid, under the Art in Embassies Program of the United States State Department. As of 2008 it is no longer listed as being there. That program arranges for loans of paintings from collectors, dealers, and museums, without identifying the actual owner. Joan Irvine Smith Fine Arts, of Newport Beach, California, was involved, and kindly provided a high resolution image.
Identification: The Art in Embassies Program listing for this painting incorrectly identifies the artist as "Frank Schafer" and gives dates of 1876-1944.
