Description: Three figures stand atop a high dune looking out over the ocean to the left, while two more people walk along a path behind the dune. Surf washes in on the beach below, while on the horizon, a ship steams by and several sailboats are visible. A flock of gulls fly above and below a more distant cliff in the center. The sky is very cloudy. (From a monochrome photograph.)
Note: A painting titled Sand Hill Domes, near Cliff House appeared as lot 84 on page 6 of the catalog of a November 1885 auction sale in San Francisco, but that catalog does not provide enough information to determine whether or not it is this painting.
Identification: Descriptive title of unknown origin, as listed by the Kennedy Galleries. The photograph in William K. Dick's collection is of the Kennedy Galleries photograph. A note on the back of that photo uses the alternate title.
