| Site: | Mount Shasta, California, with Shastina on the left, viewed from the Southwest across the Sacramento River. |
| Description: | The mountain dominates the center as the viewer stands in the middle of the river, which comes around a bend from the right center. Grassy and brushy banks with boulders line both sides of the river, with conifer forests on both sides beyond. A dead tree lies across a boulder, directing the eye to the center of the painting and the farther reaches of the valley. Two indistinct ranges of foothills give way to the mountain.
