| Site: | Presumably the Deer Creek in Yosemite Valley, California. |
| Description: | Against a blue sky with a flew clouds, a range of snow-capped mountains stands in the hazy blue distance above a v-shaped valley densely forested in green. A stream flows from the center toward the front, sweeping toward the left around boulders and smaller rocks. On the nearby banks of the stream grow broadleaf trees; on the right is a clearing on which brush grows between the rocks. An unusual property of this painting is that no dead trees, snags, driftwood, or fallen branches are evident. (From a color photograph.) |
| Legend: | The Denver, Colorado, owner is said to have met Schafer in person and acquired this painting, along with six others by the artist, on a honeymoon trip to California around 1891. |
| Identification: | Both photographs are of the same Denver collection. The Alameda Library photograph, supplied by the current owner, is labeled "Title Unknown", and notes the size as 29.5 x 44 in, but the proportions of the painting in the photograph are those of a painting with dimensions 30 x 50. |
