Attribution: The overall composition, with framing on all four sides, is not found on any other paintings by Frederick F. Schafer. The undetailed canyon background, the foreshortened perspective of the rock-covered trail, the high level of draftmanship of the horses, wagon, and passengers in the tourist party, and the absence of visible brushstrokes in the foreground all argue against attribution to Schafer.
Site: Along the Mariposa trail overlooking Yosemite National Park with El Capitan near the center and Half Dome in the distance.
Identification: Title from The Bancroft Library of the University of California, Berkeley catalog
In index(es): paintings currently held in museums and public collections, questioned attributions
