Medium: oil on canvas, laid down on board
Size: 19 x 35 inches (48 x 88 cm)
Inscription: Signed l/l "F. Schafer" in the artist's characteristic block-printing hand.
Verso: Said to be "$350.00". Back covered with deteriorating kraft paper on which is hand-printed in ink the name of a previous owner. There are also (1) an attached hand-written letter from a previous owner's wife stating provenance and (2) a small note in a possibly different hand.
Provenance: Received circa 1900 by collection of E. B. or O. B. Ackerman, New Westminster, British Columbia, in service of a debt; by passage in the family and then in 1925 as a wedding present to private collection, British Columbia. Sold 5 May 2019 for $C3500 + 20% + tax by Westbridge Fine Art Auction House, Vancouver, British Columbia, as lot 21 of "Canadian & International Works of Art" sale; to private collection, Lake Oswego, Oregon.

Note: (1) The letter describing provenance and the note are undated and are not specific that they are referring to this painting. (2) The painting is said to have been cut from its stretcher, laid down on a thin board, and then laid down on an additional board.
Legend: The note says "This is one of the missing paintings from the Fort St. Castle [Craigdarroch], wanted by Jim Nesbitt." However, a painting of this description does not appear in the castle records.
Identification: Descriptive title assigned by Westbridge Fine Art Auction House. Originally assigned title was "Figure Standing below Waterfall".
