Description: | A figure stands, poling a punt on a river; a second figure is seated in the punt. On the distant left bank is the silhouette of a house with a chimney, a windmill and two or three ships with sails. Another windmill stands at a farther distance on the right bank; several more are beyond. In the left foreground is a grassy marsh; a boulder and two short snags or poles stand at the edge of the river. Bright spots of paint illuminate windows in the large windmill and the adjacent house, and depict wildflowers on the near bank. The sky is a sunset orange. (From the painting, 25 November 2002.) |
