Site: | Appears to be Mount Hood, Oregon, viewed from the Northeast across a small unidentified river. |
Description: | A snowcapped stratovolcano with a small secondary cone on the right stands in the center against a blue-white sky. Below the mountain on the left is a hazy, forested flat ridge. A calm river emerges from the forest in the center and flows to the left front, sweeping in a wide, shallow curve against the right bank, where many small rocks stand both in the river and on the flat bank. A conifer forest stands on the right bank above a beach, with three prominent brown-trunked trees, two of which reach into the sky. A dead tree sprawls at an angle just behind their left, behind a boulder. A plume of smoke from an unseen campfire rises in the distance across the river. (From a color photograph.) |
Identification: | Descriptive title of unknown origin, as found in the 1988 sale catalog. |
